Programmes

The Anglican Aids and Healthcare Trust, based in Cape Town, is the coordinating office for all Anglican AIDS programmes and projects in Southern Africa. The DFID funded Siyakha programme covers all the dioceses in the Province, except St. Helena. Siyakha is building on the skills and Capacity developed during the First phase of Isiseko Sokomeleza (Building a Foundation) and supporting and expanding projects initiated at each diocese. The programme seeks to strengthen understanding among church and community leaders of HIV and Aids, with a particular focus on the reduction of stigma and marginalisation.

Funding from PEPFAR has made it possible to extend the Trust’s work through Siyafundisa programme, among young people from ages between 10 and 24 through peer education, life skills training and social mobilisation. The Siyafundisa Programme promotes abstinence until marriage, and faithfulness within marriage and monogamous partnerships.

Vana Vetu programme, focuses on orphaned and vulnerable children. It is currently funded by DfID and PEPFAR. The programme provides counselling, education, care and support for orphaned and other vulnerable children. It also mobilises people communities to commit themselves to addressing the challenges of HIV and AIDS particularly as they affect children.

The Department of Ecumenical and Public Relations and Training seeks to effectively coordinate all training within AAHT and to strengthen capacity ACSA, to advocate for and provide an effective and expanded community based response to HIV and AIDS.
